Sir John Alexander Macdonald was the first prime minister of Canada, serving from 1867 to 1873 and from 1878 to 1891. The dominant figure of Canadian Confederation, he had a political career that spanned almost half a century
Letter was handwritten and signed by Canada's first Prime Minister dated April 27, 1888
Letter is written on MacDonald's letterhead from his Ottawa residence Earnscliffe
Signature has been authenticated by JSA with a full letter of authenticity, certification #XX68816
MacDonalds letter is addressed to Douglas Brynner ESQ.
Douglas Brynner was editor of the Montreal Herald, was President of the House of Commons Press Gallery and in 1872 was appointed to establish the "Canadian Archives"
Letter reads as follows: "My Dear Sir; I have yours of the 2th Instant (letter from Brynner) with a confidential recommendation respecting The Archives. Nothing can be done in this matter until after prorogation and then most likely I will have an opportunity of discussing the matter with you personally. Yours Faithfully, John A MacDonald"
Excellent condition; autograph presents well with no fading or smudging, creasing due to folding, some fading around edges, very presentable for its age
