- Maple Leaf Gardens is a historic building that was constructed in 1931. From 1931 - 1999 it was the home of the Toronto Maple Leafs (during that time they won 11 Stanley Cups). As well it was the home of the Toronto Huskies for their lone season in the Basketball Association of America in the 1946-47 season (a league that was a forerunner to the NBA). It also hosted countless concerts, as it was one of the few venues outside the United States where Elvis Presley performed
- During the 1989-90 NHL season, the Maple Leafs posted their first winning season since 1979 but lost in the first round to the St. Louis Blues. Gary Leeman became the second Leaf to score 50 goals in one season
- On January 4, 1999, the Toronto Maple Leafs completed a thrilling comeback to best the Tampa Bay Lightning 5-4 in overtime, after trailing 4-2
