- Very rare historic cabinet photo issued to honour the first 30 years of the Montreal Football Club in 1898. Players + management from the first year 1868-1898 are all pictured. The Montreal Football Club of 1868 is recognized as one of the first clubs to play North American style football. (A variation on Rugby) The composite cabinet photo was created by noted Montreal photography studio "WM Notman + Sons". This cabinet photo is attributed to have been presented to teams 1898 President A Claxton (pictured directly above team photo in centre) Claxton is written in pencil on the back of the photo.
- Advancing the sport with the "running game" the precursor to the modern game, while American Colleges were still playing "Association Football" which was essentially soccer, The Montreal Football Club is recognized as one of if not the very first "modern" club, playing what some authorities characterize as the first game of North American football in 1868.
- Image includes Challenge Cup trophy, photo of club building, 4 football action photos, centre photo of the current year 1898 team + 200 plus photos of all team members from the last 30 years. Individual photos include many notables such as 1890's Hall of Fame hockey player Graham Drinkwater + winner of 3 Stanley Cups
- Overall in great condition; photo itself is in excellent condition with minimal edgewear, little to no visible surface creasing and no rips or tears. Backing shows some wear, including some glue residue on both the right and left edges and general edgewear. Photo is unaffected by any wear on the backboard. Measurements: 15.5" x 22.75"
