- Played for the Calgary Tigers of the WCHL and the Montreal Maroons and New York Americans of the NHL
- Dutton was rugged and physical defenceman and often led his team in penalty minutes
- Served as the 2nd president of the NHL from 1943-1946
- Inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1958
