Within the first 5 minutes of the 3rd period, Lorne Carr would get the first goal for the Americans and just past the mid-way point, Nels Stewart would tie the game. The game would go into 4 over-time periods, when at 10:38 Lorne Carr would score the winning goal, setting a NHL record for the longest game in Hockey.
