- Brecheen, nicknamed "the Cat", was an American left-handed pitcher who played most of his MLB career with the St. Louis Cardinals
- In 1946 he became the first left-hander to ever win 3 games in a World Series, and the only pitcher to ever win consecutive World Series games
- He finished his career with a win/loss record of 133-92, 901 strikeouts and an ERA of 2.92
