  • 1951 Bowman Detroit Tigers #214 Bob Swift baseball card
  • The Bowman Gum Company was a Philadelphia-based manufacturer of gum and baseball cards. Their baseball card lines became very collectible in the 1940s. The Company was acquired by Topps in 1956 and discontinued
  • Swift was an American professional baseball player, coach, manager and scout
  • He was a catcher who threw and hit right-handed
  • He was pictured in one of the most famous sports photos in American history in 1951. He was catching for the Tigers when St. Louis Browns owner Bill Veeck sent little person Eddie Gaedel to pinch hit during an MLB game. Gaedel kneeled on the ground to take a pitch and this stance is what was famously captured in the image
