- The Atlanta Flames were a professional ice hockey team in the National Hockey League (NHL) based in Atlanta from 1972 until 1980. They played games out of the Omni Coliseum, and were created the same year as the new York Islanders. They made the playoffs 6 of their 8 seasons, and were eventually relocated to Alberta to become the Calgary Flames
