- On July 27, 1996, the Centennial Olympic Park was bombed, killing one, and injuring 111 others. Security guard Richard Jewell was falsely accused of the bombing before being exonerated, and even found to have acted heroically. These events were portrayed in the 2019 Clint Eastwood film Richard Jewell
