- The Pirates beat the Yankees 4 games to 3 to win the World Series that year despite the Yankees outscoring them 55 runs to 27. Those 55 runs were the most scored by any team in World Series history. The Yankees won three blowouts while the Pirates won 4 close games
- Richardson of the Yankees won MVP, the only time in a history a member of the losing team has won the MVP (although the rules were slightly different back then)
- Richardson was also the first non-pitcher to win the award
