- First NHL President Frank Calder signed 1942 letter on NHL letterhead
- Addressed to fellow deceased HOFer, the Leafs Hap Day, who has also initialed the document
- Dated April 15, 1942, the letter has an "National Hockey League" banner across the top, with "President Frank Calder" along with the address of his office in the top left corner of the letter
- Calder has signed in dark fountain pen ink, with the signature remaining dark and completely bold
- Day has initialed in pencil over the lower left
- Carefully removed from original frame with no visible residual wear
- Frank was the 1st president of the National Hockey League from 1917 until his death in 1943. He also served as the last acting president of the NHL's predecessor league, the National Hockey Association (NHA)
- Calder was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1947 as a builder
- 2 trophies in professional hockey are named for him: the Calder Memorial Trophy, given to the NHL's top rookie, and the Calder Cup, the championship trophy of the American Hockey League
