- Lord Stanley signed military commission Sept. 5, 1888 in his capacity as Governor General of Canada. Document promotes Captain Frederick Minden Cole to the rank of Major in the Montreal Brigade of Garrson Artillery. Also signed by Canada's Minister of Militia and Defence Adolphe Caron.
- Also included is an invitation issued to Captain Cole inviting him to 1887 event celebrating Queen Victoria's Jubilee
- Stanley signature authenticated by JSA. JSA has graded the signature 9
- Commission 10" x 15.75”
- Invitation Approx. 7.25" x 4.75”

- Excellent condition; commission displays some spots of light even foxing and some other very minor spots of discoloration. 3 even vertical folding creases. Stanley autograph graded 9 (near mint) by JSA. Other autographs display well with no fading, bleeding or smudging. Invitation displays what appear to be small staple holes in each corner along with some faint spots of discolouration. Edges and corners of both documents are clean and sharp.
