- Schmidt was Canadian ice hockey center, coach and general manager who spent most of his NHL career with the Boston Bruins
- He was elected into the Hock Hall of Fame in 1961
- Schmidt finished his playing career with 575 points in 776 regular season games
- He also coached the Bruins for 11 seasons and was promoted to General Manager in 1967 when the NHL expanded and doubled in size
