- Ed was a Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender who played for the New York Rangers and Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League from 1965-1978
- His #1 was retired by the New York Rangers in 1989
- Inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1987
