- The Detroit Red Wings played the New York Rangers during the 1960 NHL season, with the game ending in a 2-2 draw. Hosted at the Detroit Olympia, Gordie Howe and Gary Aldcorn scored for Detroit, and Jim Bartlett and Eddie Shack scored for New York. This season the Red Wings were much more successful than the Rangers (who ended up missing the playoffs), as Detroit reached the conference finals
- Marcel Pronovost was a Canadian professional ice hockey defenseman and coach. During his twenty season career in the NHL, he played for the Detroit Red Wings and the Toronto Maple Leafs. With the teams he played in 11 all star games, was named to 4 post-season NHL all star teams, and won 5 Stanley Cups (4 with Detroit and 1 with Toronto). This earned him an induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame as a player in 1978
