- Pete 'Charlie Hustle' Rose played in Major League Baseball from 1963 to 1986 most notably as a member of 'The Big Red Machine' Cincinnati Reds that dominated the National League in the 1970s. He also spent time with the Philadelphia Phillies winning his third World Series title with them in 1980. He also had a brief stint with the Montreal Expos. He made his return to the Reds in 1984 and became the last ever person to serve as a player-manager in the MLB
- Rose is the MLB's all-time leader in hits (4,256), games played (3,562), at-bats (14,053), singles (3,215) and outs (10,328)
- In 1989 Rose was famously penalized with permanent ineligibility from baseball amid allegations that he gambled on baseball games while he played for and managed the Reds; including claims that he bet on his own team. In 2004 he finally admitted that he did indeed bet on baseball including the Reds
