- Vintage Imperial Roman coin of Valens who ruled from 364 A.D. - 378 A.D.
- Valens was chosen by his brother Valentinian I, The Roman Emperor of the West, to be Roman Emperor of the East in 364. Valens entered Constantinople as reigning Augustus after defeating and executing Procopius, a senior Army Commander in the Persian campaign
- Valens then went to war against the Visgoths in 367. During his reign he also fought the Persians in Armenia and the Goths in the Balkans. Battles with barbarians on the frontiers of his empire kept Valens occupied during the latter part of his rule
- Valens and most of his army were massacred by the Visigoths at the battle of Adrianople in 378
